Dr. Johnny Leroy Bailey, PH.D Obituary (1985

Johnny Leroy Bailey called his last classroom roll as his heavenly father was the ultimate teacher and called him to his heavenly home on December 25, 2022. He was born to Lisa Bailey Johnson. Johnny was preceded in death by his grandparents Johnny and Bernice Chambers Bailey. At an early age he confessed Christ at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Pamplin, VA under the pastor Rev. Dr. Warren Napier. Upon high school graduation from Heritage High School, Lynchburg, VA he pursued his education, worked hard, and received his Ph.D in mathematics from Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. Johnny was employed at Morgan State University that is a public historically black research university in Baltimore, MD. He was in the process of writing a book that was a work in progress. Johnny's aspiration was to apply what he had learned to his students in preparing them for the real world of today. He became a leader who focused on building critical thinking and problem-solving for students beyond their classrooms. Johnny was involved in Black Lives Matter which is a decentralized social and political movement that seeks to highlight racism, discrimination, and racial inequality that's experienced by black people. For enjoyment Johnny loved to play video games, watch good movies and read a good book. Johnny is leaving a lasting impact on anyone he ever came in contact with. Johnny is survived by his mother Lisa Bailey Johnson and Carl Johnson who was like a father; brother, David Bailey of Appomattox, VA; sister, April Bailey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service for Dr. Johnny L. Bailey, Ph.D, will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. from the Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home Chapel.
